When did art enter your life?

We had good art teachers in school, and a curriculum that valued music and art with equal vigor as sports, which is unusual for small town America. There were city, state and national art contests for young people and I sought chances to enter. I was lucky to win many awards, which encouraged me to keep creating art, if just in my spare time as I worked to put bread on the table.

How has your art changed through the years?

The work I produced was assigned, whether detailed illustrations for a textbook, or a branding package or food labels. The mechanics were defined and amounted to following orders. It was a long road for me to offer my creativity as well as my technical skills. Most of the art/work was created with various software programs and a stylus.

Which mediums do you enjoy?

I am loving watercolor, which is fun because all my life I steered way clear of it. I thought it was completely out of control. I started paddling canoes 20 years ago, and found out that, yeah, water is the dominator. Fight to control the river you're floating on, and it will not end well.

Miniatures occupy the technical space in my art world. I recently made a 1:12 scale reproduction of my studio using recycled bits and bobs.

Metalworking with precious metals and Michigan rocks and gems, and repurposed elements that represent Michigan's history has occupied my bench time for a few years.

What art are you creating now?

I am fascinated with the symbiotic connection of storytelling and visual art. And the relationship between art and viewer
. As I learn to be more aware and attentive to my own emotions, my art will continue to bloom. I hope. I'd like everything I create to show the love I have for the inspiration behind it. I value women's wisdom, including the divine energy of our planet herself. Nature in all her expressions is endlessly fascinating.
